Treat Sleuth’s Got a Brand New Bag

After a long hiatus as a result of a new job, I’m ready to report back from the treat hunt. Things at the new job were looking bleak on the goodie front and I was concerned I would have to be the sole supplier of delicious. However, today, I discovered my kindred. They are called The Production Department, and they informed me that they always have treats that they like to share. Just finished a pretty good piece of biscotti and it just goes to show what a well-placed treat lament can do for you. I will check back with them early and often, and I eagerly await the holidays as it turns out vendors like to woo with chocolate and sugar.

Twas the day before the weekend

and all throughout work, not a publicist was stirring- it's summer; we shirk.

I'm really trying to focus... I'm failing miserably.

Bagels, Bagels, B A G E L S

Thanks to Laura Lee for the glorious bagel song she composed for the event of Dani's bagel laden departure snack. Quick on her feet.

In a reversal of typical form, I would like to share with you what is NOT a treat : eating two bagels while wearing a backbrace...
Somethings gotta give, and in the battle of stomach vs. sturdy orthopedic corset, I pick corset to win every time. Stay tuned.

But the bagels were delicious.

Also, somewhat overdue: Rebecca Hunt has garnered her Acknowledged Treat Accomplice stripes. Sam Black has also earned his, due to having his mother send HIM a care package at MY work. The sheer brazen scrappiness of this act illustrates Sam's fealty to treat sleuthing. Commendable.

Delicious Death

I have found the Anti-Christ and he is made of Heath bar bits.

Look at the calories! Look at the fat! I am appalled, and I'm not even particularly healthy. I've even eated a deep fried Twinkie. But I don't think ANYTHING can compare to that guy.

Even sadder is that I recall eating one of these not so long ago.

Sigh.

Better late than never

When Sarah is tardy to work, she brings in treats just in time for an elevenses snack. I think this is acceptable penance.

the morning news

Though Mr. Murphy will not share his three o'clock skittles, the keeper of the skittles, Jen Krusch, will. I think we all know what this means. Congrats, newest Acknowledged Treat Accomplice Jen.

Also, Steve gave me the candy that was sitting on his desk. If he hadn't said "Yeah, whatever, it's been sitting there for a week," I would have felt even more honored by his gift.

Finally, Tartine has some good food. Goat cheese salad, chocolate mousse and fruit tart all highly recommended.

Good work team, really nice job out there.

Treat Accomplice ranks are swelling

Thanks to some really good cupcakes this morning, Laura Lee gets her merit badge

Lime cooler cookies are pretty tasty (acquired thanks to a generous author via a generous Kate Gales.)

Treat Indictment: In contrast to Ms. Gales, Mr. Murphy is NOT generous with his skittles. At least, not yet. Perhaps he can be trained. Sharing is caring, and I enjoy skittles.

Finally, David Kahn can kill you, but he is actually quite sweet. We met him yesterday, and it was -you guessed it- a treat... ADVANCED! KRAV! MAGA! Some training was tentatively offered to Katy and I, and if it comes through, Treat Sleuth may yet have another soldier... Erm, actually, kind of a legit one.

Peace out.

Epic treats. Just epic.

Captin's Log, May 2, 2008:

9am: treatsleuth is made aware of copious, if dubiously, healthy treats on the mail table. (Thank you treat accomplice Emily). The vitatops (fortified muffin tops) were interesting and tasted like they contained a lot a vitamins. Not necessarily a bad thing, but noteworthy. Also some soy crispy-esque things that I tried only briefly.

12pm: Novita for Katy and Ellis' joint birthday. pecorino fava bean salad: good, spinich and ricotta ravioli: good, cheesecake, the nougat thing, and the icecream thing that started with a "p": good. team awesome was a go.

2:00pm: fat dog! fat little dog waddling around!

2:15pm: Rice crispy treats, thanks to the newest Acknowledged Treat Accomplice, Colleen.

it's been a good day.

Office Missives Are A Treat

Recieved early this morning:

"Hi Guys,
Due to a kilo-pound snafu (silly Europeans!) my other half recently ordered 50 lbs of bananas from fresh direct. This being a quantity that I couldn’t possibly consume, I thought I would share the bounty. So if anyone wants a delicious banana for breakfast, I’m going to leave a bunch on the mail table.
Cheers
Ellis"

Ellis, I believe this qualifies you as an Acknowledged Treat Accomplice

Black Oven is analogous but not homologous to Treat Sleuth

She likes death metal, I like kittens. And yet, we both pursue delicious things with the same ardent vigor... The ends justify the means? For further coverage of my bizarre, somewhat cranky treatmistress alter-ego, please visit Love in the Time of Katertot blog.

The world is a large, complicated place.

Also, I don't know how I feel about tasti d-lite anymore. Or refined sugar. Stay tuned.

It is gloriously, perfectly spring

A crisp wind, warm in the sun, cool in the shade, white wine on checked table cloth, fries and reckless joviality. nice.

tasty d lite

It is very tasty! And relatively low impact on your calorie intake, which I know now courtesy of one Emily Fry, who is also now an acknowledged treat accomplice as a result of this fortuitous introduction to a culinary/chemical wonder of our times.

All natural! Awesome!

It is a dark day

a dark, dark day.

don't bother checking the mail table.

c is for cookies

I made some delicious sugar butter cookies yesterday. I will probably bring them into work tomorrow, so check the mail table.

When the treats contain alcohol, it is trouble

I hugged the bartender. However, she had just gotten engaged and given me free cake and a gin and tonic.

She deserved that hug.

ALSO

SOME people are treat weenies who don't know the honor, hard work and passion that goes into treat sleuthing. To prove my commitment to the field, I share the best kept trade secrets:

I've noticed that the art department always has cake when I go down there to get mock-ups. I've never had the courage to ask for some, but someday... someday. And Monica often has treats and she will share. And if you're really desperate, check the 17th floor conference room and the kitchens.

SO THERE.

Also

Philosophical Treat Question:

Does it only count as a treat if it's free and/or unexpected?

Treat Recap

Treat consumption reached epic levels due to a visit from my progenitors.

Notable treats:
  • everything at Perilla. INCLUDING the brusslesprouts, a darkhorse candidate to be sure.
  • cherry blueberry pancakes with apricot butter and blood orange mimosas
  • unexpected cheese pizza

Important Treat Information:

I need more treats. I am in withdrawal.
